Chick-Fil-A Encounters

I really just need to get this off my chest, but all I crave to consume right now are chicken sandwiches and frosted lemonade. I have always been a burger girl and have expanded my burger ventures to other places beyond McDonald’s.

I’ve always been very dedicated to McDonald’s as it will always be a staple fast food restaurant in my family. In high school, I once had McDonald’s once a day for two weeks straight right before Speech practice. This happened because the captain had a car, so we would round up everyone’s orders and money during 6th period class, and make the trip to the Holy Temple. That was what my best friend at the time called it; she lived for the chicken nuggets at McDs.

However, since learning to drive in my mid-teenage years, I’ve tried a variety of burgers at other places such as Wendy’s, Burger King, Five Guys, My Burger, etc. I wouldn’t say I have a favorite at each of the places, but I usually just order a burger consisting of the usual: beef patty, cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, and sometimes bacon. There is something about a good burger blend in your mouth that is chased down with a medium Coke or Sprite. I’d choose a burger over liquor shots any day.

I was never keen on chicken sandwiches because in middle school, there was a chicken sandwich line offered for lunch daily. I would often opt for this lunch line because it was always the shortest and I preferred to chat with my friends during lunch. I never really had another chicken sandwich until my Freshman year at the University of Minnesota.

You see, in the Student Union Building of the University of Minnesota, there are a variety of places to eat consisting of Panda Express, Erbert and Gerberts, Einstein Bros Bagels, and good ol’ Chick-Fil-A. This brings me into the first time I actually had a chicken sandwich Chick-Fil-A. (I had the chicken nuggets once before but didn’t care for them bc McDs are my go to for nuggets… gross, I know).

After visiting an event with my friends, we rushed to grab some lunch and as unappealing as a chicken sandwich sounded to me, I didn’t want to grab it. Mind you, this was after the horrid Fall 2016 election; I wanted to try my best to avoid Chick-Fil-A because I had heard the owner was a D.T. supporter, but when it came down to me and my stomach…. did I really have the time to be concerned about politics? A girl has gotta eat… and the line for Panda Express was miles long.

The third encounter with Chick-Fil-A happened as I was walking toward the parking ramp on campus after my evening lecture. Days like this, I often just eat one meal, or none at all. (I know, I’m working on fixing this). This area of campus often smells of Panda Express and other foods which doesn’t help the fact that I had an empty stomach as well as a wallet. The woman walking ahead of me had an aroma of deep fried potato somethings. We ended up in the elevator together, and I tried really hard not to steal one of those weird looking waffle fry potato things that she was eating from her purse. After this encounter, I only had ever eaten Chick-Fil-A on campus a few times through the semester. Again, it wasn’t a staple fast food restaurant in my mental list of places to eat because I just didn’t live near one. That wasn’t until last summer.

The New-ish? Chick-Fil-A

As I had mentioned, I didn’t live near a Chick-Fil-A so I rarely ate there unless I was desperately hungry on campus. I only recently visited the Chick-Fil-A built one town over about last month.

After a spontaneous sister-bonding trip to the mall, I told my 14 year old sis, “I am going to change your life.” She’s never had Chick-Fil-A… and I’d never actually ordered anything from an actual Chick-Fil-A.

We both ordered the #2 Spicy Deluxe and Frosted Lemonade. When the very nice girl asked which sauces we wanted with our meal, I had no idea the options and quantities were not limited. They gave us a funnily shaped table marker and our sauces in: Chick-Fil-A, barbeque, and Polynesian.

As we both sat down at our table to wait for a server to bring our food we observed the atmosphere to be very much like how we wished our home felt, calm. We adored the vased flowers and how brightened the dining area was. When our food was brought to our table, we were asked if we needed any napkins or utensils, and others around us were asked if they needed their trash thrown away. Wow! After eating, we left both amazed and in awe at how amazing the service was and how we were most certain our summer would consist of just Chick-Fil-A.

The Search for Frosted Lemonade

Like the one that got away, I searched high and low for something similar to the Frosted Lemonade I drank at Chick-Fil-A. One time I drove up to Wendy’s and misread their menu. I knew they had Frostys and I knew they had lemonade…. so why didn’t I see Frosted Lemonade? I told the cashier I wanted a Double Stacker, Baconator Fries, and Frosty Lemonade. She said, “Yeah, what flavor?” I thought she had meant Chocolate Frosted Lemonade or Vanilla Frosted Lemonade… so I hesitantly asked for vanilla… and ended up with a vanilla Frosty. Since it was also the first day of Spring, Dairy Queen had free vanilla cones, and I love soft serve ice cream more than anything so I had to. Bummed, they didn’t have anything close to Chick-Fil-A’s Frosted Lemonade. This same week, while picking up a steak quesadilla from Taco Bell, I asked if they had any sort of lemonade drink…. they only had pink lemonade, so that’s what I ordered. The only place I found comparable was Cinnabon. I forgot what it was called, but it wasn’t nearly as good as, again, the Frosted Lemonade I had a week prior.

To me, the Frosted Lemonade, as well as the Frosted Sunrise, tastes like the Orange Cream Bar Ice Cream. I describe it as tasting of childhood in the summer. My boyfriend told me his mother used to make a variation of the drink. We watched several times and were honestly disappointed it was just lemonade or orange juice, soft serve ice cream, topped with whipped cream!!! Needless to say, it’s definitely worth the try as a refresher. The drink would definitely have a kick if there were added carbonation or some variation of alcohol, like Stella Rosa Moscato added to it.

Chick-Fil-A Count

I’ve gone to Chick-Fil-A the last three days. I’m not proud to say it… but I just can’t get enough. The first day, I stopped by to pick up 4 strawberry milkshakes and 3 Frosted Lemonades as a treat for my family and boyfriend for cleaning up the house and garage. The second day, I went to treat my boyfriend to a Spicy Deluxe and Frosted Lemonade because he had tried neither the night before. The third day, he and I took “pre-game movie smoothies”, which were Frosted Sunrises.

Embarrassingly, I have also suffered from stomachaches, possibly due to all of the soft serve ice cream in the drinks…. but it’s so worth it. I’d die for another Frosted Lemonade and Spicy Deluxe.

Hope you enjoyed this read as much as I did writing it! Grab yourself some Chick-Fil-A. This article was definitely not sponsored and honestly my whole-hearted opinion.
